In Latvia, a country where women outnumber men by 15.5%, a figure that more than triples the European Union average, a service has emerged that has become very popular among local women: “renting a husband for an hour”.

This service offers help with household tasks such as plumbing, carpentry, and repairs, and it has thrived amid the notable shortage of men in the Baltic country.

The gender imbalance is especially pronounced among those between 30 and 40 years old, and among people aged 65 or older, the female population is double the male population.

A Latvian woman commented that 98% of her coworkers are women and that most of her friends date foreign men. Faced with this reality, the “husband-at-home in one hour” service has become a practical alternative.
