On Friday, August 14, someone called L’Osteria Mondello, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and ordered 18 pizzas. The restaurant was already overwhelmed with other large orders, but Dave Agovic’s team managed to have them ready in 40 minutes.
No one came to pick them up. When Agovic called the number on the order, the person who answered said they knew nothing about it. It was a prank, and about $300 worth of pizzas were left ownerless on the counter.
Instead of throwing them away, Agovic thought of those who don’t stop working even on a Friday night: the Emergency Department staff at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Ryan Lemley, an 18-year-old former employee who happened to be passing by, offered to deliver them himself.
Agovic has been running the business for more than three and a half years and never charges upfront, because he trusts his people. This time that trust cost him money, but it gave him back something priceless.
