For many, it seems like only yesterday that we met her as Xica da Silva, but 30 years have passed, and Taís Araújo is now 47.
At 47, the Brazilian actress wanted to turn the conversation that often follows women as they age on its head. Taís, who was only 17 when she starred in Xica da Silva and became one of the most recognizable faces on Brazilian television, has no interest in trying to preserve the appearance of that young woman forever.

“I’m 47 years old, and the goal isn’t to look 25, but to make 25-year-old women want to turn 40”, she recently wrote alongside a photo shoot.
Her message significantly changes the way we usually talk about female aging. Instead of turning youth into something to be pursued throughout life, Taís prefers to show that getting older can also be a stage that younger women look forward to reaching.
And perhaps that is why it is so special to see her today after having met her when she was practically a teenager. The Xica da Silva many remember grew up before our eyes, and three decades later, Taís doesn’t want to be 25 again: she wants 25-year-olds to look forward to getting where she is. ❤️
