He bought a device to “hear better” online… and ended up with a piece stuck inside his ear

A shocking video recorded with a medical camera went viral after showing the inside of a patient’s completely blocked ear. At first glance, it looked like a large earwax plug, but behind the wax was a thick silicone tip that had become stuck inside the ear canal.

The images were shared by hearing aid specialist Conor Boland, from the YouTube channel Durham Hearing Specialists, who explained that the piece did not belong to a conventional hearing aid, but was likely part of one of those low-cost devices that promise to “improve hearing” and are often sold online.

According to Boland, the tip was much thicker than usual, and the patient had one in each ear. During the removal of the second device, he even felt more pain because the piece had become firmly lodged inside the ear canal.

The specialist used the case to issue a warning: many of these supposed hearing solutions are sold without quality controls and can end up causing more problems than benefits. Instead of trusting miracle products bought online, he recommended always consulting professionals to assess any hearing loss and using certified devices.

If, after using an earbud or hearing device, you notice that a tip is missing, feel that your ear is blocked, or experience pain, specialists recommend not trying to remove it with tweezers or cotton swabs, but rather seeing a professional to avoid injuries.

Sometimes, the problem is not in the ear… but in the products that promise solutions too good to be true.
