That “for your age” can sound like a compliment, but it also leaves the impression that after a certain age, looking good should be a surprise.
Jennifer Aniston has spoken several times about the pressure surrounding aging, especially for women. And there is one expression that particularly bothers her: for someone to tell her that she looks good, but immediately add “for your age”.
For her, that small addition completely changes the meaning. If a person looks good, she believes they should be able to say so without comparing them to what someone who is supposedly 40, 50, or 60 years old should look like.
The actress has also said that she currently feels even better than when she was 20 years old, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
At 57, Jennifer does not want her age to function as a kind of asterisk after a compliment. If you look great, you look great. Period.
