Selina Amy went from being a girl who hid at school so no one would see her to a woman who proudly shows herself to 122,000 followers on Instagram, a transformation that was not easy and required years of inner work to accept her half-Vietnamese, half-Dutch roots.

The model said that growing up in a small town where most people were blonde and blue-eyed, her dark features stood out so much that her classmates constantly mocked her for her physical appearance, “I remember wishing I looked like everyone else”, “I didn’t feel pretty”, the model said.

But when she began sharing her life on the internet and learning more about her mother’s culture, something changed inside her and she understood that being different was a good thing.

“I stopped trying to be less Asian, I stopped trying to be smaller”, she revealed, and that decision completely transformed the way she behaved, worked, and built her platforms, turning her difference into the essence of everything she is building today.
