Long before “girls’ girl” became a trend on social media, Victoria Beckham was already saying it out loud.

In 2013, when she received Glamour magazine’s Woman of the Decade award, she said there weren’t enough women supporting other women, and that this was exactly what needed to be done. Years later, in a conversation for International Women’s Day, she repeated the message: “Support one another. Be that woman, that girl”.

She doesn’t just pay lip service to it. She said that three quarters of her company is run by women and that working alongside them inspires her every day. And in a letter published by British Vogue in 2017, she revealed where that conviction came from: she wrote that she would learn how cruel other women could be, and that experience would teach her always to support those around her and include them on her journey.
For her, supporting other women isn’t a fashionable slogan: it’s a lesson she learned the hard way.
