Allison Janney is 66 and no longer asks anyone’s permission to live the way she chose.
As a young woman, she believed marriage was a mandatory stop along the way, the destination everyone took for granted. Over the years, she realized that path was not hers. She thought about becoming a mother when she was forty, and even seriously considered it, but motherhood ultimately did not fit into the life she was building.
Today she says it without a shadow of a doubt: she has no regrets. Neither the marriage that never happened nor the children she never had. She only regrets taking a little longer to understand that her life did not have to resemble anyone else’s.
