Tia Zakher is 23 years old and has a decision to make every night.

She delivers for Uber Eats and knows something anyone in her line of work discovers quickly: you make more money at night. Waiting until morning wasn’t an option. But going out alone in the dark scared her, so she came up with her own solution.

She put on a gray sweatshirt, an oversized jacket, khaki pants, and white sneakers. On top, a hooded cap and a mask that covered half her face. She filmed herself on TikTok with text that explained it all: you’re afraid to deliver alone at night, but you earn more, so you dress like a man. The video’s caption was a single phrase: “Male privilege”.

The clip surpassed 272.000 views. Many users supported her and lamented that a woman has to resort to this. Others gave her practical advice, such as wearing looser pants to look more convincing. And there were those who criticized her.
