Many people in her close circle questioned her decision, but she defended herself by saying that young people are left unprotected when it comes to educational debt. “People my age understand it”, she said.

The reality of a student is often very complicated, since in addition to being focused on passing their courses and having time for their academic performance, they also have to keep their tuition and monthly payments up to date when they are at institutions that are not free.

And education in some countries is often very expensive, so much so that young people have to work at the same time as they study or seek help from their parents for financial support.

Kassandra Jones is a 28-year-old woman from New York, United States, who had moved out of her parents’ home years ago, so she was no longer receiving any kind of financial help from them. However, she had to pay for her master’s degree, so she had to look for some solution.

According to information from Mirror, the first thing the young woman thought of was looking for a scholarship she might qualify for. Unfortunately, she was not accepted into any of them, so she was left empty-handed.

But an opportunity came her way: selling her eggs to an in vitro fertilization institution, which would pay her a significant amount of money.

Kassandra had a university debt of more than 24 thousand dollars, something she could not manage even with three jobs. So the five rounds of egg donation allowed her to raise 50 thousand dollars, with which she could pay for her master’s degree in Nutrition.

Hearing that amount of money out loud almost takes my breath away. I really had no other choice. I wish it weren’t just for my tuition. I wish that money were for the down payment on a house or to launch my own business“, the young woman explained.

Despite the risks this could cause to her health, in addition to possible infertility, the young woman explained that she acted out of “desperation” and that she felt “overwhelmed” at some point in her life.

The whole process itself required a lot of work. I had to learn how to give myself injections (…) There was a lot of pressure and swelling in the lower part of my abdomen, cramping pain that made it difficult for me to walk, stand, sit, or laugh“, she said.

Many people in her close circle criticized her decision, but she argues that young people are left unprotected when it comes to debt and that there are no options to pay it off.

People my age understand it. They completely understand the situation and are equally angry about how our education system and the government have failed us. Older generations have no idea what this feels like with the new circumstances we have to endure“, she concluded.
