His lawyer asked quite matter-of-factly that Rick Ross be released from jail as soon as possible because he was a celebrity.
Judge Mindy Glazer of the Miami-Dade bond court did not understand the argument and responded with another question: “What does that mean?”. Ross, 50, was following the hearing by video from custody, wearing a red prison jumpsuit, and his lawyer Bradley Horenstein admitted that he did not even know what the judge could do about it. When Glazer addressed the rapper, she was direct: “Hello, Mr. Roberts. I have no idea who you are, except that you are someone who, here in court, will be treated fairly, just like everyone else”. Roberts is his real name: William Leonard Roberts II.

Ross had turned himself in that October morning in Miami Beach, accused of two counts of assault which, according to local media, include one serious charge of strangulation, following a complaint by his ex-girlfriend about incidents that took place in August at his Star Island mansion. He pleaded not guilty, and his defense denies the allegations. That same afternoon, he paid 6.000 dollars in bail and was released, with a restraining order and a new hearing scheduled for October 22.
