Anna Kendrick didn’t mince words.
At 39, while promoting her directorial debut with “Woman of the Hour”, the actress spoke to The Guardian about a subject she has spent years avoiding in gentle terms: motherhood. “I never think about having children, so I suppose I don’t think about using that as a weapon either”, she said, in a direct response to JD Vance’s comments about “childless women with cats”.
It wasn’t the first time. Back in 2016, in her book “Scrappy Little Nobody”, she had made it clear that motherhood didn’t fit into her idea of life. But repeating it amid a political controversy, without nuance or apology, was what turned an interview quote into a global talking point.
The interview, published on October 11, 2024, from her apartment in Los Angeles, also touched on darker chapters: an abusive relationship that shaped her work in “Alice, Darling” and the process of inhabiting the role of a victim of serial killer Rodney Alcala for her new film, released on Netflix on October 18.
