Karen Frías was cooking when the pressure cooker exploded. The Chilean influencer, known as Karencita Frías and followed by more than 500 thousand people, suffered severe burns to her face and other parts of her body. According to her own account, the accident happened on July 11, 2023, and she was treated at San Luis de Buin Hospital. Her sister Shonay was by her side and was also injured, suffering first- and second-degree burns on her back. Only Karen remained hospitalized.
She was the one who showed the results on Instagram. “I didn’t want to show myself like this, but the truth is that I have a lot of burns on my face and body”, she said in a clip where her swollen face could be seen. Before going into the operating room, she asked for prayers: “I’ll go into the operating room and they will intubate me, but I know God is in control of my life, and I will come out victorious from this”.
Pressure cookers are found in thousands of kitchens and, if used improperly or if they have a fault, they can become a serious hazard. That’s why checking their valves and waiting for the pressure to drop before opening them is not a minor detail: it can prevent an accident like this. 🍲
