Jonathan Roumie spent years trying to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor, but in May 2018 he came close to giving up. He was living in Los Angeles, had debts, his bank account was in the red, and he had barely 20 dollars left in his pocket.
The food he had at home would only last him one day. Desperate, he knelt in front of a crucifix and decided to entrust his future to God.
“I give up”, he recalled saying during that prayer.

Hours later, while checking his mail, he found four unexpected checks for old jobs totaling approximately 1.100 dollars. The actor said he burst into tears and felt that his prayers had been heard.
But the story didn’t end there.
Three months later, director Dallas Jenkins called him to offer him the role of Jesus in the series The Chosen. The two had already worked together on religious productions.

The role ended up transforming his career and making him known internationally.
Roumie remembers that experience as a turning point in his life and in his faith. For him, learning to trust when everything seemed lost was just as important as the opportunity that came afterward.
