“I stay seated”: Mac Allister’s mother’s confession about the chant against the English

Silvina Riela, Alexis Mac Allister’s mother, said it plainly on Radio Mitre: at Argentina national team matches, there is a chant she never joins in. 🇦🇷⚽

“Anyone who doesn’t jump is English” echoes through every stadium when Argentina plays against England. But Silvina stays still, seated, silent. The reason has a name: Alaia, her 9-month-old granddaughter, daughter of Alexis and Ailén Cova, was born on English soil while the footballer shone first at Brighton and then at Liverpool.

The conversation with Eduardo Feinmann came just before the 2026 World Cup semifinal against England, the matchup that promises to be the most steeped in history. Silvina also revealed that the family follows him with a La Pampa flag and that Alexis looks for them before every match. A grandmother’s love, stronger than any rivalry. 🥹
