“A man should smell like a man.”
With that phrase, Matthew McConaughey explained on the cover of PEOPLE in 2005 why he’d gone 20 years without wearing deodorant. He’s 54 today, and the routine hasn’t changed.
The curious part is what those who’ve worked alongside him say. Kate Hudson, who shared the set with him in two films, said she could smell him “from a mile away” and that they became very close. Yvette Nicole Brown, his co-star in Tropic Thunder, deliberately moved closer to check and came away puzzled: “He smells like granola and the good life”.
The actor himself suggests that his scent is his own doing. When asked about his fragrance, he replied that they are “homemade potions” and refused to reveal the ingredients.
For him, the sexiest smell is your own.
