“I take you, Sarah.” Andrew Fildes said it with complete confidence, standing in front of his family, his fiancée’s hands in his, and a knot of nerves making him sweat.

The problem is that his fiancée’s name is Rebecca. Sarah is her middle name, but it’s also the name of the woman he was with for 13 years and from whom he has been separated for a decade. Rebecca, 47, corrected him immediately. Andrew, 52, hadn’t even noticed. In the room, his brother covered his face and his son shook his head. She, on the other hand, burst out laughing. The couple married at a register office in Bedfordshire, in October 2023, after six years together.

Some compared it to Ross and his “Rachel” on Friends. Others, with no sense of humor, wrote that they would have called off the wedding. They’re still married and still laugh about it. Andrew says he now owes her a proper wedding, where he gets her name right.
