Mira Dorenbosch and her husband, Jaimy, had been traveling around Bali for several weeks when, at around 5 a.m. on a Sunday, a stranger entered the bedroom of the private villa where they were staying. Jaimy was the first to wake up. He saw a figure in the room and, for a moment, thought it was a dog.
“Out of pure reflex, he kicked [the dog]“, Mira recounted on Instagram. “Seconds later, he realized it was a man“.
The situation was far more serious than they had imagined. “A man dressed entirely in black, wearing a balaclava, was inside our bedroom, right next to our bed, while we were sleeping“, Dorenbosch wrote.
Mira woke up in the middle of the situation and said that the man began to threaten them and demand Jaimy’s Rolex. But there was one detail that was difficult to explain: Jaimy was not wearing the Rolex, and the watch was not even in the room.
“It didn’t feel random“, wrote Mira, who was left wondering how the intruder knew they had that valuable item and who might have had access to information about their belongings or the private villa. Eventually, the man escaped with Jaimy’s Hermès bag. The couple later filed a report with local authorities.
Mira and Jaimy are originally from the Netherlands and currently live in Spain, where they run a luxury real estate business in Marbella that also manages private vacation properties.
After the robbery, Mira decided to share what happened to warn other travelers. “You always think something like this happens to someone else… until you wake up and there is literally a masked man standing next to your bed“, she wrote.
And she ended with a much more direct warning: “Please be careful in Bali”. The case was reported by news.com.au, which noted that the outlet contacted Dorenbosch to request further comment on the incident.
