Michael Carmona wasn’t the groom, but he did the most to make that wedding possible.

His sister’s fiancé, Thomas, was facing serious health problems and, according to the report, could spend years on the waiting list before finding a compatible donor. Years they couldn’t spare. Michael found out and didn’t wait for another option to appear: he offered his own kidney.

The operation took place at a hospital in California. In the video, Michael can be seen walking with the help of a walker, still wearing his patient gown as he recovers from surgery. Later, the two reunited after their procedures. Thomas, according to reports, burst into tears upon seeing the man who had given him a second chance at life.

Some families are formed with paperwork, and others with a kidney between them.
