A British makeup artist traveled to Istanbul seeking to improve her smile with a treatment that was faster and cheaper than the one offered in the United Kingdom. She believed she would receive 24 individual zirconia crowns, but months later discovered that part of her teeth were joined together in bridges.

Vanessa Thornton-Yates, 35, began experiencing pain, sensitivity, bleeding gums, and difficulty eating. When reviewing her case, a dentist explained that 16 of the teeth she believed were individual were connected, making it difficult to clean between teeth and potentially worsening gum problems.

She now faces an estimated repair cost of between $10,300 and $19,400, based on the approximate conversion from British pounds. The smile she initially liked ended up forcing her to eat carefully and wonder what is happening beneath each tooth.
