María Consuelo Córdoba had already made the decision to die.
After more than 80 surgeries and years of pain that no one should have to bear alone, she had requested euthanasia. But something shifted before it was too late: this woman’s story reached people who didn’t know her, and those people decided not to just stand by. “I’m very happy, very pleased with those angels who have secured this for me”, María Consuelo said, still surprised that strangers had made her struggle their own.
The organization Vamos Por Más arranged the procedures to reconstruct her mouth and nose, and with that news came the response that changed everything: “I do want to have my surgery because I am not going to undergo euthanasia”. When they confirmed the operation, she could barely contain her excitement: “How could I not accept? Of course I’m going to accept, sweetie”.
Today, where there was once a farewell, there is a surgery date and a woman determined to recover.
