Zahara Jolie didn’t use the Pitt surname. ✨

It was in 2023, when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter introduced herself to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority as Zahara Marley Jolie. A full name, with no trace of her father’s surname. It was a small detail, but in a family followed closely by half the world, even an omission can become a topic of conversation.

That said, it’s worth considering the gesture calmly. Introducing yourself one way is not the same as legally changing your name, and there is no confirmation that she has done so. The only thing we can verify is how she chose to introduce herself to a group of people she was just getting to know.

And perhaps that’s the most interesting part: for a young woman who grew up under the flashbulbs, deciding how to introduce herself can be a way to start writing her own story. Her case raises a question that goes far beyond celebrities: to what extent does a surname define who we are, and who has the right to decide? 💭
