Freddie Figgers was only hours old when his mother left him among trash cans in a rural area of Florida.
A neighbor heard his cries and saved his life. He ended up in a hospital, and that is where Nathan Figgers and Betty May appeared, a couple who were already 74 and 66 years old, with children of their own and no plans to adopt anyone else.
Even so, they took him home.
At school, his classmates called him “trash baby” and even locked him in a dumpster, but at home he found what he never had at birth.
At age 9, his father gave him a broken computer that he got for little money.
Freddie fixed it himself, and that gesture opened the door to technology for him. By age 15, he already had his own company.
At 21, he obtained an FCC license to bring telecommunications to rural areas. Today he runs Figgers Communications, valued at 62 million dollars.
The boy the world wanted to throw away ended up building what no one expected.
