Rosalía had it all planned out.
She wanted to attend a gospel service at the famous Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, and she took the occasion very seriously: a shower, makeup, perfume, and a carefully planned look with capri pants, a cardigan, and low heels. “I got all dressed up for God”, she joked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and she even came up with an expression: “hot for God”.
The problem came after she had waited in a long line in the cold. When she finally got to the door, a man told her she couldn’t come in because the church was full. She felt as though they were looking at her like she wasn’t on the list, but she took it in stride: “I was rejected by the Church! I didn’t even know that was possible”, she said, laughing.
And since the outfit was already ready, the singer did what anyone wearing heels and perfume would do: she went to buy new shoes. When Fallon joked that it was just what God would have wanted, Rosalía added: “God said no, but my outfit said yes”.
Still, she isn’t giving up: she said she hopes to go back someday and attend that service.
