Ronald Exantus entered the Tipton family’s home in Kentucky for no apparent reason. It was 2015. Inside was Logan, just 6 years old.
He stabbed him in the head with such violence that the knife ended up bent. The boy died at the scene. His father and his two younger sisters also suffered serious injuries before Exantus fled the house. In 2018, a court sentenced him to 20 years in prison, but the justice system found him not guilty by reason of insanity, a legal provision that drastically reduces the time a convicted person remains behind bars.
Exantus served a little over a decade behind bars. The Kentucky prison system justified his early release by citing his good behavior inside the facility. Logan’s father has already told the court what he plans to do if he runs into him on the street: “I have spoken with God… I told him that if I ever run into him, I will kill him on the spot”. Ten years later, the wound remains open.
