Videos of Shakira performing “Dai Dai” on her “Las mujeres ya no lloran World Tour” were flooded with comments that are anything but praise for her performance at the World Cup opening. “That was the outfit she should have worn”, “this performance is better than the World Cup one” and “why didn’t she dance like that there?” dominated the comments section.

For part of the audience, the difference is clear and the answer obvious: at the concert it was the real Shakira, with energy and command of the stage; at the World Cup, something didn’t add up. For others, expecting an artist to deliver the same level in a massive ceremony with completely different technical conditions is unfair, and the criticism borders on bad faith.

Was the World Cup performance a toned-down version of Shakira, or were the circumstances simply different? What do you think?
