Melissa Sloan is 45 years old, lives in Powys, Wales, and gets about three tattoos a week. She already has more than 800, including on her face. That’s why she’s called “Britain’s most tattooed mother”.

According to what she told the Daily Star, in December 2022 the teachers wouldn’t let her attend her children’s Christmas play. She says they suggested she watch from the back garden, through the classroom window.

She also says she can’t find work and that when she covers her tattoos with makeup, people treat her completely normally.

For some, it’s pure discrimination: a mother shouldn’t be excluded from her children’s school life because of her appearance. For others, the school has the right to protect the environment experienced by a group of young children.

Where does a person’s freedom over their body end, and where does a school’s judgment begin?
