Eric Maison was 39 when he shared something few families experience: he and his 15-year-old daughter, Corey, were transitioning at the same time.

Corey was born male, but according to Eric, she had identified as a girl since she was 2. In 2012, they watched a documentary about a trans girl, and she came out immediately.

Eric took another three years. In the fall of 2015, when Corey had already started hormone therapy, he took the first step: “If she can do it, so can I”.

In 2016, he began his medical transition, and on February 21, 2017, he underwent a double mastectomy.

They live in Michigan with Les, Eric’s husband, and four other children. According to Eric, they all still call him “Mom”, and some joke around with “Daddy Mom”.
