Julie Tétart is 34 years old and dominates the second division of women’s basketball in France.
She plays center for Mónaco Basket Association, and she finished the 2025-26 season with nearly 21 points and 20 rebounds per game and the highest efficiency rating in the entire competition. In March, she scored 21 points and grabbed 30 rebounds in a single game, a league record. She was named National Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Player of the Year, though the MVP award eluded her.

Tétart is a transgender woman, and her name resurfaced just as the WNBA is going through some very tense days: former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected from a game after an altercation with a player and declared himself eligible for the 2027 draft, claiming he meets all the criteria of the collective bargaining agreement. Asked whether she would make the jump to the U.S. league, Tétart did not rule it out: “If they contact me, I won’t say no”. According to reports, as of today there are no transgender women in the WNBA.
She says that in France she received transphobic insults from the stands, but other fans approached her afterward to apologize and tell her that her visibility helped them understand. What do you think?
