“If they harmed a child, they should not have rights over their own body”. In Italy, they are suggesting chemical castration for abusers

Giorgia Meloni and her government put a proposal on the table that makes half the world uncomfortable: applying chemical castration to those convicted of child sexual abuse. It is not yet law, it is not yet mandatory. For now, it is an idea under discussion.

Some say it is the only real way to stop repeat offenses and protect children. Others warn that it opens a dangerous door: if the State decides over a guilty person’s body today, who can guarantee it will not decide over anyone’s body tomorrow?

Italy is not alone in this discussion; several countries have debated it before. Which side are you on: justice for the victims or limits on State power over the human body?
