Everything seemed normal until, over North Macedonia, a piece of the damaged engine struck the cabin and broke a window.

The pressure did its thing: Karović’s head and shoulder were outside the plane within seconds. Svetlana threw herself over his legs and did not let go, while other passengers helped pull him back in. “If we die, we die together”, she thought at that moment, according to what she later told the press.

The plane descended more than 2,700 meters and returned to Thessaloniki. Karović was hospitalized with friction burns, a hand injury, and severe shock. Ryanair confirmed the incident, and investigators are now looking into what went wrong with that 18-year-old Boeing 737-800.
