On June 17, 2026, María Isabel Rodríguez Jiménez took the podium in the Chiapas Congress and said what no one expected: “I am against sexual diversity. Let them do it at home, but let them not confuse our children.” 😮
She said it on exactly the day Chiapas commemorated for the first time its State Day Against Lesbophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, and Homophobia. The reactions were immediate. The Chiapas State Human Rights Commission opened a case against the lawmaker that same day.
The Mexican LGBTTTIQANB+ Coalition, local groups, and even Morena’s own Secretariat of Sexual Diversity in Mexico City rejected her words and demanded a public apology. 🏳️🌈 The scandal even reached within her own party.
Rodríguez Jiménez has been a plurinominal Morena congresswoman in Chiapas, Mexico, since 2024 and holds a law degree.
