Before the match between England and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, singer Liam Gallagher publicly cheered on the England national team.

After the 2-1 victory, the players celebrated with the fans by singing “Wonderwall”, Oasis’s iconic song, in a scene that quickly went viral.

The celebration sparked an unexpected controversy because of the Gallagher brothers’ reaction. While Liam celebrated the moment, Noel surprised everyone by stating that “Wonderwall belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players”.

Although weeks earlier he had declared: “I’m not a fan of England, I’m Irish”. That apparent contradiction sparked an intense debate among fans, who questioned his stance.
