In Hong Kong they said “if it’s part of the family, it also deserves its own ID”. There, some owners have cards made for their pets that look like a real document, with a photo, name, and contact details. And yes, besides being useful, they look way too cute posing like little furry citizens.
The cards imitate the design of an official ID, and many include details like breed, date of birth, and even the owner’s information. Basically, your dog goes from “Firulais” to “Mr. Firulais with documentation”.

And although they aren’t official government documents, they do have a real use. They can help a lot if the pet gets lost, because whoever finds it has quick access to the contact information.
Some are even digital or have NFC technology, so all you have to do is hold a phone near them to get the owner’s details. So, besides being adorable, they’re pretty modern.

But honestly, a big part of the charm is something else: seeing dogs and cats with their mini passport-style photos. Because yes, they all end up looking like they’re ready to open a bank account or travel abroad.

I wish this existed in more countries, because having an ID card for pets isn’t just useful… it’s also impossibly adorable 🐶
