Sharon Jacks filed a lawsuit after losing both legs. The 74-year-old woman alleges that doctors amputated her left leg when the procedure was supposed to be performed on her right, which needed surgery for cancer.
The scheduled surgery was an amputation below the knee. The case occurred in September 2025, in Ohio, United States, and Jacks’s claim states that the wrong limb was operated on. The patient ended up losing both legs instead of undergoing the single amputation that had been planned.
Selby General Hospital acknowledged that there had been a preventable incident and violations of protocol. An operation intended for one leg ended with the loss of both and a lawsuit.
