The incident occurred on Circuito Chico, a tourist route where the long-tailed pygmy rice rat lives, the main carrier of the Andean strain of hantavirus. In the images, the woman can be seen holding the small specimen in her hand despite the current health alerts due to recent cases in intensive care.

Experts from Harvard University warn that the virus may be more contagious than expected and is transmitted through the saliva or waste of these animals that live in southern Argentina and Chile.

#hantavirus #raton
