In Sherman Heights, San Diego, a man climbed a ladder to the second floor of the Rowley family’s home and slipped through an open window. Inside, Nash, a 4-year-old, 90-pound golden retriever, was waiting for him. Instead of defending his territory, he ran to fetch a toy and offered it to him. He did so at least three times while the intruder, in no hurry at all, ate yogurt, turkey, and cheese from the refrigerator, took off his shoes and shirt, and ended up taking a half-hour nap.
Dante Rowley, the owner, watched everything in real time through a security app on his phone and could do little more than acknowledge the obvious: Nash is a terrible guard dog. The intruder was arrested by the police, but the real protagonist of the video that went viral is a dog who, without knowing it, gave a stranger the warmest welcome of his life.
