Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, 15 according to reports, began feeling unwell on October 10 in the village of El Jocote, Guatemala. She lost consciousness while her father, evangelical pastor Abraham Ixcotoyac Tojin, was trying to take her to a medical center. Unable to detect breathing or a pulse, he returned to his community to organize the wake.

No doctor had certified her death, and the family had no death certificate when they placed her in the coffin. Hours later, during the ceremony, the young girl began to move in front of those who had come to say goodbye. The family interpreted what happened as a miracle and attributed the teenager’s recovery to God.

Now the Public Ministry is investigating what happened, and the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation intervened to protect the teenager. Some media outlets mention a possible sentence of up to 5 years in prison, but there has been no conviction, and it has not been proven that the family faked anything so far. Was it a medical emergency that was misinterpreted, or was there something more?
