The Iraq national team went through a bitter moment upon arriving in the United States to play in the 2026 World Cup, as its star, striker Aymen Hussein, was detained at the Chicago airport.

The reason? An apparent case of mistaken identity with another citizen, causing him to be held for 7 hours before being released, as Arab media reported:

“The Iraq delegation tried by every possible means to secure the player’s release, but the attempts were unsuccessful and the group had no choice but to head to their place of lodging. He said he was treated like a terrorist”, a source close to the national team concluded.
