Paz had already managed to save her little dog and was carrying her in her arms when tragedy struck. Paz Ramírez, 39, had gone back to rescue her pet, which had been left exposed in the middle of the street in Providencia. As she was getting back up with her in her arms, a vehicle hit her.
Fidel Soto, a TVN journalist who witnessed the moment with his wife, said that he began to brake upon seeing people crossing, but a gray car appeared in another lane at high speed. “It was brutal”, he recalled about the impact.
According to his account, the most shocking part came immediately afterward: he expected the driver to brake and help her, but the opposite happened. He says the driver accelerated and fled the scene, and that the vehicle did not even have a rear license plate. The witness also pointed out that the outcome could have been even worse, as another person accompanying Paz was also at risk of being run over.
Paz later died from her injuries. She had returned to the street trying to prevent anything from happening to her little dog and managed to get her to safety. Unfortunately, she was not so lucky.
