Isabella was 23 years old and waited four days under the rubble for someone to find her.
She was one of three triplets born on the same day in Cali. The 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook Colombia on August 10 brought down the María Alvira building, where she lived with her parents, Jairo Hernán Saavedra and Blanca Victoria Caicedo, and her sisters Sofía and Ana María. That same day, Sofía and her parents were found dead, embracing amid the concrete. Ana María survived with severe pelvic injuries and remains hospitalized at Clínica Imbanaco, having undergone surgery and fighting to recover.
On Thursday night, rescue teams found Isabella’s body. With her, the search comes to an end and what the family had feared since the first day is confirmed: of the five Saavedra Caicedos, only one remains. Ana María wakes up every day in a hospital, without her parents and without the two people with whom she shared every moment since she was born.
