Carlos Saavedra can find no other way to tell it: he lost five relatives in a matter of seconds.
His brother Jairo, his sister-in-law Vicky, the two triplets, and another uncle who had arrived to work just 10 minutes earlier. They found them embracing amid the rubble.
Only Ana María managed to run out through the main door, and that same door, when it fell on top of her, cushioned the rubble and saved her life. Neighbors heard her calling for help, and within half an hour she was already at the hospital.
“It is very hard for Ana María; she communicated mentally with her sisters and said Isabella was alive. We had hope, but no”, her uncle said. Ana María has already woken up and knows she lost her entire family in the 7.7-degree earthquake that shook Colombia. Physically, she is recovering. The rest, Carlos says, will take much longer.
