Gisele Shaw, 33, an Impact Wrestling wrestler, chose Pride Day in Toronto to say who she really is, and she did it in front of cameras, knowing there was no way to do it without fear.
“There really is no perfect time to come out. It’s my journey. Today I am living my life to the fullest, truthfully, authentically, freely, and I am transgender and very proud. People are going to have opinions, but no matter what they say, that does not define who I am. I know who I am and I am true to myself”.
Scott D’Amore, Impact’s executive vice president, did not hesitate for a second to come out in support of her: “Gisele Shaw is a woman and a valuable member of our roster”, he told the San Francisco Chronicle. And he went further: the company has already taken steps to ensure Shaw’s social media does not become a forum for hate, because, as he himself said, transphobia is real and they cannot pretend otherwise.
