It looked like an ordinary market shopping bag. Inside was a piece of pork; however, the skin still attached to the meat showed something that should not have been there: a tattoo of waves and scales, in the traditional Japanese style.
There was no doubt—the design was completely defined… it had been done with a professional tattoo machine.
The question no one wanted to answer out loud immediately arose: was that pig tattooed while alive? Or was it human skin disguised as animal skin?
The most plausible explanation is less macabre than it seems: in the tattoo world, raw pigskin is bought from butcher shops because its texture and layers almost perfectly mimic human skin.
Apprentices use it to practice their hand control and needle depth before working on a real client. Even so, the exact origin of this specific piece—who tattooed it, at which school, and whether it really ended up disguised as a market purchase—was never confirmed with absolute certainty.
