Ashton Lemley had been chasing storms for years, but never had one spoken to him like that amid the debris.
It was the early morning of May 7 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, and a tornado had just destroyed a mobile home park, leaving a dozen people injured. Among the remains of a collapsed wall, Ashton heard a faint meow. He stood still. The sound disappeared for five endless minutes, until he heard it again. He dug beneath the insulation, between two wooden posts, and there it was: a soaked, frightened kitten, but without a single injury 🐾
He filmed everything while exclaiming “Oh, I found it!” and handed the kitten over to the United Cajun Navy team so they could dry it off and get it to safety. Lemley won’t be able to keep it because he is allergic to cats, but dozens of people are already asking to adopt it if its owners don’t show up. Some have already named it: Tornado 🐱
