The internet loves visual challenges, especially those that force you to stare at a screen over and over again until your eyes burn.
Recently, an apparently casual photo of a couple has become a viral phenomenon. The image shows a man and a woman in what seems to be a hug or an everyday pose, but a disturbing visual effect at the lower part of their bodies has made millions of people doubt what they are seeing.
After reviewing thousands of interactions, the community has mainly split into two strong theories:
The amputation theory: A large group of users claims that the image is completely real, but that it portrays a physical condition. According to this group, the woman has an amputated leg and the man is subtly holding her in his arms, creating a confusing angle that distorts visual perspective to the human eye.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) theory: On the other hand, the most observant and tech-savvy users have started to notice details in the setting that do not add up. “Look at the background, the lines of the room’s windows do not match or align logically”, one internet user pointed out. This theory claims that it is an AI-generated image that suffered a classic “hallucination” when rendering human limbs, creating an impossible composition.
