Not even Danny DeVito or the film’s director knew what was going on between them. While their characters fell in love in front of the cameras, the actors were living out their own romance in secret.

Michael Douglas, 82, revealed in his memoir *One Helluva Ride* that he fell in love with Kathleen Turner during the filming of *Romancing the Stone*, in Mexico, in 1984. At the time, he was separated from his first wife, Diandra, with whom he had a son, Cameron.

According to Douglas, after each day of filming, he would wait for everyone to fall asleep before sneaking into Kathleen’s hotel room. However, everything changed when Diandra arrived on set with their son, suspected the romance, and spoke directly with the actress. Turner decided to distance herself, and Douglas went back to his wife.

Despite everything, the actors remained friends and worked together several more times. In fact, Douglas asked Kathleen for permission to tell their story in the book, which will go on sale on October 6.
