A group of mountaineers was walking along the slopes of the Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala, fascinated by the spectacle of lava and ash, when the ground shook and an explosion hurled a large rock through the air, landing just a few meters from the hikers.

The video shared on social media shows the rock slamming into the ground as the stunned tourists watch in terror. Racking up thousands of reactions and comments like “They were miraculously spared,” wrote one user. “That’s a warning from nature,” added another.

Volcán de Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, draws hundreds of hikers for its visual spectacle, but it also poses a latent threat that can turn deadly in a matter of seconds. Authorities remind people of the importance of hiring certified guides and checking volcanic activity before climbing.
