Hillary was 17 when she went in for lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid.
According to her account, the procedure was painful from the very first moment. She had already had hyaluronic acid injected under her eyes and knew something was wrong. The doctor told her the pain was normal and that the swelling would go down within hours. It didn’t.

She was treated with hyaluronidase, the enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid, over the course of about seven sessions. According to her, the substance did not disperse. She traveled to the United States and then returned to Colombia with a maxillofacial surgeon. The tests, she says, revealed that it was not hyaluronic acid: it was silicone mixed with industrial oil.

Between 2021 and 2026, she underwent three complex surgeries. The last, in Colombia, lasted seven hours and was to remove the material, some of which had migrated to other areas of her face. She has been living with the aftereffects for more than seven years. Every day, she smiles with more confidence and is closer to her recovery.
