She never wanted to worry anyone.
That is what Jada Star, Dolly Parton’s niece, said when she explained why her aunt kept her battle with cancer secret until the end. Dolly, 80, was admitted to Nashville’s Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center on August 21, 2026, and died there four days later, surrounded by those she loved most.
Jada, 47, and the daughter of Freida Parton, told everything in an interview with Extra last September 1. She said that even within the family, the subject was rarely discussed: Dolly preferred life to continue as usual, without pity or concern from others. She was buried in a private service on August 28, attended only by her closest circle, and a day later the Grand Ole Opry paid tribute to her with the song “The Orchard”, which she once recorded alongside her niece.

Even in her final days, Dolly Parton remained what she had always been: someone who thought of others first. 🌹
